Spatially Explicit Efficiency of Agricultural Land Use – A Two-Stage DEA Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
Agriculture provides commodities and has an influence on the environment. However, even if the value of agricultural production is easy to evaluate, it is difficult to estimate the efficiency of agricultural production at site level. Furthermore, the valuation of environmental impact is complex. Non-parametric approaches such as DEA allow for an estimation of environment and economic performance. We suggest a plot-specific approach combining GIS and DEA models. This allows a spatially explicit assessment of agricultural land use for different subjects such as ecology and economy. In a second stage DEAmodel, the impact of farmand site-specific characteristics on efficiency is analysed.

Measuring Economic Efficiency of Kidney Bean Production using Non-Discretionary Data Envelopment Analysis
Efficient use of assets in agriculture is a goal for policy-makers and farmers. Agricultural input resources are scarce therefore optimum use of inputs in different agricultural operations is important. Mathematical programming technique such as data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a well-known approach for estimation efficiency of agricultural DMUs. In this study, efficiency of kidney bean produ...

Studies on land use change and food security in China have often neglected the regional variability of land use change and food production conditions. This study explores the various components of agricultural production in China in a spatially explicit way. Included are changes in agricultural area, multiple cropping index, input use, technical efficiency and technological change. Different re...
متن کاملTwo-stage Production Systems under Variable Returns to Scale Technology: A DEA Approach
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a non-parametric approach for performance analysis of decision making units (DMUs) which uses a set of inputs to produce a set of outputs without the need to consider internal operations of each unit. In recent years, there have been various studies dealt with two-stage production systems, i.e. systems which consume some inputs in their first stage to produce ...
متن کاملTwo-stage DEA with Fuzzy Data
Data envelopment analysis is a nonparametric technique checking efficiency of DMUs using math programming. In conventional DEA, it has been assumed that the status of each measure is clearly known as either input or output. Kao and Hwang (2008) developed a data envelopment analysis (DEA) approach for measuring efficiency of decision processes which can be divided into two stages. The first stag...
متن کاملPresenting a New Model for Bank’s Supply Chain Performance Evaluating with DEA Solution Approach
Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a method for measuring the efficiency of peer decision making units (DMUs) with multiple inputs and outputs. The traditional DEA treats decision making units under evaluation as black boxes and calculates their efficiencies with first inputs and last outputs. This carries the notion of missing some intermediate measures in the process of changing the inputs to...
